COVID-19 is a new, highly contagious disease caused by the novel coronavirus. It can be spread by breathing in droplets in the air or by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching your face.
There is no proven treatment and no vaccine.
You can have it and not feel sick but still give it to others.
Most people recover. For some, the disease is fatal.
Many — but not all — people who become severely ill or die from COVID-19 are over age 55 and have pre-existing conditions such as: obesity (BMI of 30+), diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, COPD, and Sickle cell disease.
Children are less likely get sick from COVID-19 or to show symptoms, but some have developed serious complications
Members of the Black community are disproportionately vulnerable to contracting and suffering serious complications from COVID-19.
