Know the facts about COVID-19
- COVID-19 is a new, highly contagious disease caused by the novel coronavirus. It can be spread by breathing in droplets in the air or by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching your face.
- There is no proven treatment and no vaccine.
- You can have it and not feel sick but still give it to others.
- Most people recover. For some, the disease is fatal.
- Many — but not all — people who become severely ill or die from COVID-19 are over age 55 and have pre-existing conditions such as: obesity (BMI of 30+), diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, COPD, and Sickle cell disease.
- Children are less likely get sick from COVID-19 or to show symptoms, but some have developed serious complications
- Members of the Black community are disproportionately vulnerable to contracting and suffering serious complications from COVID-19.
