Well-Being
The African ancestry community has endured hundreds of years of social inequalities resulting in racial disparities making our community more susceptible to chronic and debilitating diseases such as COVID-19.
- A strong sense of well-being (physically, spiritually, mentally) — the personal perception that your life is a happy one — is critical to keeping the body healthy and immune system strong.
- Well-being is challenging in a society rife with systemic biases that impact our most basic needs: safe, stable, affordable homes; quality education; quality healthcare; and a fair and just legal system. Advocating for social change is necessary, but taking charge of your self-care and having confidence in your ability to accomplish anything you set your mind to are absolutely critical.
- We must take the necessary steps to improve our overall well-being through self-care and strong relationships, becoming part of a community, attending to our mental health, and building a strong spiritual life. Eating healthy, exercising, and getting adequate sleep is critical to well-being and improving our immune systems.
